The patello-femoral joint :

What am i headed for? - - Posted by Mandy (Mandy), 26 January 2005

hi everyone~

havent been around too much...real busy with school and traveling with the team.  i dunno what to do now concerning my knees.  i realize that soft tissue surgeries take awhile to heal and all that, but i think what is happening to me isnt really supposed to be happening.  post surgery i was still getting the clicking feeling and grinding, that i was told was normal.  but what is happening right now is that i am literally starting to sublux HORRIBLY, and also have started to dislocate.  i have never dislocated before...it just started this past week. Undecided   i have been told since the beginning of this surgery that if this was unsuccessful that my next option would be a TTT.  do u think that they will suggest doing this now or do i have to continue to go thru these debilitating dislocations etc. for awhile. Undecided   i go back to my OS tomrrow...the 27th.  i have also booked a second opinion with a sports medicine/knee specialist 100 miles away.

if you guys could give me some insight on anything that ive mentioned in this post that would be really appreciated.  i dont know if i really made any sense but i hope so! Tongue

thanks in advance,
~Mandy

Mandy, sorry that you are in so much pain and having so many dislocations.  No one knows what you are headed for as we are not doctors, but there are options to help.  You know your options and it is you that must decide when you can not take anymore of this pain.  You can tell your OS just what you have been going through and that it is interferring with your life.  If PT, with the correct exercises for your situation does not work then there must be other things that could help improve your situation.  You do have to try to make PT work though and it does take a long time to see results, but if there are no results then you have to seek other options.  Braces are not a perfect answer either, but some of them can really help you get throught the tough times......

Why not ask about a medial reefing or TTT surgery and see if your OS thinks you are a candidate for the proceedure or if there are any other options that could be offered to help correct your condition.  Maybe being direct is your best bet.

Good luck at your appointments.  Wink

mandy is a candidate for a TTT Shade, that was the next option she was given if the Plica removal didn't bring the results which they were looking for.
Mandy just make sure that having something like a TTT isn't going to put an end to your Hockey playing... or if it is that you are prepared for that.
I'm on MSN alot..if you want/need to chat.

Hi Mandy,
I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I know the dislocations too. I don't know where you're headed either as I'm in a similar position. Hopefully the new OS will give you some more options.
Hope to talk online soon! Good luck!
