Bone breaks around the knee :
Shoulder pain, anyone? - - Posted by sparta5 (sparta5), 16 September 2004
As if I haven't had enough to deal with....
Has anyone else developed a rotator cuff or other shoulder problem from using their crutches?? I seem to have stressed/strained someting in my shoulder because now it's hurting - and sometimes it's weak. This is bad news as I am depending on those stupid things to get anywhere or do anything. If yes, what were your symptoms, what was wrong, and what on earth did you do about it?
Thanks.

Hi Sparta5,
I had shoulder problems, not major though last year when I has my ACL recon. It was weak, painful and very clicky.
I swam loads and worked on the lat pulls at the gym, in between my knee exersizes. I was concerned that I would need another op and have to use crutches again, so I worked as hard on the shoulders as the knees. After a few months the shoulder was great and has'nt clicked or been a problem since. Ive now been on crutches for 11 weeks following my last op and have had no trouble with my shoulder at all.
Good luck,
Heather

Thanks - I am wondering if maybe I pulled a muscle or two, and now they're inflammed and a pinching a nerve or something. I am using Motrin (sparingly as I am on blood thinners for that &@@!#$ clot that formed as a result of all this), ice, ane rest.

yes...lots of shoulder pain. being inactive and then the use of crutches has caused my shoulder to really ache!! you are not alone in this.

I didn't have much shoulder pain--more like muscle ache. My PT had me use a machine they call an arm bike to help build those muscles too. It helped. If your PT doesn't have one or can't do any arm exercises with you, maybe grab a couple of free weights and do some strengthening exercises at home?

That's what I started doing!
Some weights, stretches, and some ol' Motrin (have to be careful, I'm on blood thinners because of my injury-induced clot! eep!), and I'm better today.
I don't think I tore anything like the rotator cuff, thank goodness, but I did strain something.
I'm not even in any PT yet - hopefully next week - I'm seeing my doc this Friday. Cross your fingers he's a bit more forthcoming with PT and info...his track record isn't real great so far.
