Has anyone had other problems after ACL?? - - Posted by shawnana (shawnana), 30 August 2004
has anyone had this happen to them? there is a huge divot in my kneecap forming since about 4 weeks out in PT. My dr said "he didnt do it cuz he didnt do a bone graft"..although I had ACL reconstruction 4 years ago as well, with [/u][/u]a bone graft...it never was seen or felt until now there a definate divot that keeps getting longer..almost to the top of the knee cap...all my dr said is "not to fall on it or it will crack"...he wont take responsibility for it nor has he offered to see why this is happening to me..what do I do
..I am angry at him for dismissing it and acting as though he has no responsibility for it at all.. help has anyone out there suffered a (cracked) or (divoted) patella post ACL reconstruction? or am I in this alone?

What kind of graft did you have?

I had ACL recon 4 years ago witha bone graft. and this time it was the "hamstring" graft. I was a little apprehensive because I knew that the bone graft was supposedl the most effective, then the hamstring, I still cannot "run" for 3 more months, I guess the hamstring takes longer to heal. Not to mention, I pulled the hamstring a month after surgery as well. Did you have a graft too? If so, when and what kind? How is your recovery going? Did you experience any kind of divot in your patella or crack going the full length of the patella? I am a bit worried but I made an appointment with another OS for a second opinion yesterday , so we will see what he has to say.

Don't mnow if this will help, I had a hamstring graft too from the contralateral leg because the hamstring on my injured leg was also harvested, but I have a divot as well (though not as large as you describe). I also have a noticeable slope in my patella tendon even though my OS says he did not touch it. If anything else at least you're not alone. The divot doesn't give me any trouble besides the aesthetic aspect, but the 8 inch scar running down the side of knee sort of overpowers it anyways. Best of luck
