KNEE ARTHRITIS - Autologous chondrocyte implantation (A.C.I.) :

harvest question? - - Posted by brattkids2 (brattkids2), 21 December 2004

Ok I know this may sound silly but can they take a harvest from the opposite knee I would think that you cdould but who knows stranger things have happened.

My bad knee has really no where to a harvest from. I had a synthetic  proceedure to mimic ACI and the lateral side took great but my medial side isnt doing so well. I had an OATS in November but I dont think it worked as I still have the ice-pick pain and other symptoms.

My next option could be an ACI or a cadaver allograft, and I havent asked the OS about harvest from the opposite knee yet but I thought I would ask here before I go in Jan.

thank you for your replys

Hi Paulette,
The answer to your question is yes it can be taken from your other knee, as when I was having my harvest done, there was a young woman in the bed opposite me who had a harvest from her knee for ACI in her ankle! So theres hope for you too.
Best regards.
Jules.
