KNEE ARTHRITIS - Total Knee Replacement :
Overseas knee surgery costs - - Posted by Phillips (Phillips), 17 November 2002
My father has had arthritic knees for the past 15 years. He has had a severe limp in his left leg - which tends to need crutch assisstance at various times of the year. His specialist he has always given the advice, that if he can still use his knee he should avoid having a replacement. Being a proud sort of 'chap' he has struggled on in agony. A recent fall has left him with constant crutch use and very little, if any mobility. He is now on a 13-15 month waiting list for a knee replacement. The only option he has is to wait or go private at a cost of 5K; an option he can only dream about whilst he sits watching his other arthritic limbs slowly, but surely deteriorating due to lack of use.
Any suggestions on how to get treatment quicker or cheaper. I have suggested faking an accident or throwing himself off a garage roof - thus admitting himself to casualty. The proud old 'sod' refuses to entertain this type of 'con' tactic.
If anyone has any information, I would be grateful for your thoughts or suggestions,
Kind regards
A J Phillips

Don't fake anything. You could both be in very serious trouble if you did that, and dishonesty is wrong. I'm sorry he is such pain but you knew there would be a long wait.
