Arthroscopy 3rd party mobile - - Posted by ariel (ariel), 7 December 2004

Just a quick query really - is it standard practice now in Britain if the NHS MRI waiting list is quite long at your hospital, for them to give you the option of a 3rd party "mobile MRI Unit" at another local hospital - am happy my scan is coming through soon, but it seems to be at a "mobile unit" rather than in hospital.

Thanks

A mobile mri unit is just an mri unit based in a lorry - it feels like you're in a portakabin - and I'm sure it makes no difference to the scan itself. At my local hospital all mri scanning is subcontracted to a private outfit who use a mobile unit. The up side of this is the wait for a scan is about 3 weeks. Which is heaps better than the wait time at some other nhs hospitals!  cgski
