Meniscus :
Two years on torn meniscus--what sort of damage? - - Posted by shellebelle (shellebelle), 17 March 2004
I've been walking on a torn meniscus for almost two years. An arthoscopy last year showed that my meniscus was fine, but after the pain didn't resolve I saw a different doctor today and he diagnosed me with a torn meniscus.
So, assuming that my meniscus is indeed torn, how much further have I complicated things by walking around on it for two years? It grinds and clicks. I am up on my feet a lot.
Thanks,
Michelle

With grinding and clicking, you may have a piece that's come loose enough that it's hanging up in the works. With some luck, it wont be a big piece and they can trim it off and you'll be okay. People have walked around on torn mensicii for years, the repercussions of which I'm not 100% certain of, aside from increasing the size of the tear, having bits come off and float around freely in the joint fluid and act like sand in bearings. Did you have an mri to see what it says? They're not perfect, but are a lot of help.

I walked on a torn meniscus for 17 years. I ended up with arthritis and will be needing a knee replacement.
