KNEE ARTHRITIS - Injections into the joint :

First Synvisc Injection Today..... - - Posted by SSchmidt (SSchmidt), 15 March 2004

Okay, I have been lurking around this site for a while now and have found some very useful info.  Thought I would share my experience with my first Synvisc injection.  The shot itself was not very painful at all.  The surgeon sprayed a topical anesthetic on the knee before injecting and I really couldn't feel much.  The pain came after the injection.  Lots of pressure and the feeling of heaviness in the joint itself.  Actually, walking around a little after the injection helped some with the pain.  I was pretty nervous before the injection (in tears), however, it was NOTHING like I thought it would be.  If you feel you can achieve any relief by having this series, I say "go for it".  Right now, the knee is a little swollen and painful, but nothing that a Lortab and some ice can't dull.  I just hope I get some relief.  I had a plica resection with removal of cartilage and repair to the fibia December 19th of 2003.  Good Luck everyone!

Hi,

I finished my Synvisc series 3 weeks ago.  I alway found that my knee was more sore and stiff the day after the injection, so be prepared.  Just take an NSAID or something when you get up.  I'm not sure if the Synvisc helped or not, but it may take up to 8 weeks to see any change, so I'm not giving up yet!

Just had my first SynVisc.  Like many others have said, it didn't hurt near as much going in as the cortisone did.  LESS pain is always good!   Smiley  Am hoping for good results.  BTW, in talking with the doc about "down the road", he mentioned that, since I'm not a good candidate for partial knee replacement (wrong part of my knee degenerating), he brought up the possibility of an osteotomy.  "But," I replied with a grin, "I don't WANT to poop in a bag!"  Thankfully, he realized I was trying to be funny!   Wink  Katie
