Collateral Ligaments and other non-cruciate tendons & ligaments around the knee :

MCL - - Posted by canadiankid (canadiankid), 26 January 2005

Can anybody give me any advice. I recently was told that i stretched my MCL playing soccer. I was in immediate pain and i couldn't walk. The X-Ray showed nothing had torn, but i am skepticle since the same symptoms of my ACL tear (for which i had surgery feb. 2003) have appeared. could an x-ray be wrong. Has/is anybody in the same boat as me?

hey,
ive been in that boat before.  have you had an MRI yet?
X-rays can only show the bones.  its not possible to see whats going on with the tendons and ligaments with an xray.  however, MRI's dont always show everything right.  when i got my MRI, it showed damage to my acl.  my OS didnt agree, so i went in for a scope and he fouind a grade 2 MCL sprain.  I think you should go back to your OS, and talk to them about your concern.

Good luck,
Lesley
