KNEE ARTHRITIS - Total Knee Replacement :

Bad knee revision - - Posted by Sandie (Sandie), 1 October 2002

I had revision surgery, and the long stems were put in June 21st 2001, I have so much pain, ans cry most of the time, they keep saying it will be fine just wait, but the thoughts of just shooting the stupid knee out sometimes crosses my mind, I need some one to just listen take the thing out, and do it over, or cut it off, at this point I am becoming desperate, I have no life, I sit in a chair and elevate it, I can't do any thing, or go any where, and I just turned 45.I am willing to go any where and do any thing, but I can't take the pain any more. I have had femoral artery anurisims, and etc, with this one, if you know of any help please let me know Cry

Sandie,
Things sound pretty crummy for you but you can't go and do anything silly. Has your OS explained why you would be still in so much pain. You didn't say what sort of revision surgery you had. I've had 2 revision ops but I don't know what you've had done, so mine may not be the same.
The Knee Guru axplained to me when I first started here that if you go to the top of your main screen and go to profiles, you go down to almost the bottom of that and you can put in a short history of your injury and it comes up at the bottom of your name. If you see others names, like me for instant, I have a brief history under this message. Its in the place where you put your little picture of the red animal in. Have fun

It does not sound right that you have so much pain. The following things might be the cause:
1. residual chronic infection
2. fracture of the bone
3. wrong angulation of prosthesis
4. aseptic loosening of the prosthesis
5. nerve damage
6. very low pain threshold??
7. RSD
8. unrelated localised problem
other things - less likely
It may be a good idea to talk again to your surgeon.
