Cruciate ligaments :
8 Weeks Post Op/How much physio ? - - Posted by desiree1 (desiree1), 11 November 2004
Hi all,
Im doing pretty well but find my quads stiff and general aching around the knee if I do alot with the leg.Im doing all the exercises the physio recommends but wondered how often you lot exercise once, twice.three times a day ?? can you do too much ?
I spend 20 mins first thing and then through the day do alot of stretching and alot of up and down stairs at work as well as alot of walking around.
What time scale would I feel my muscles really starting to improve ?

Hi Chris ,
To be honest Id say it will be well into next year before you see any major improvements in the muscles around the knee .
The experts say it takes the guts of a year before the Knee Muscles are as strong as they were before injury .
Vital you Keep working at it however and have patience . They will come eventually .
When i was in rehab I used to spend an hour a day working on the knee in the Gym !!

What bohamp said. Also, it's important to not micro-manage the knee either. You will have some good and bad knee days. On bad knee days, if the joint felt stiffer than usual or just more painful, I'd take it easy for a day or two and then get back into it. You want to give it a chance to heal too.
But the muscles are so hard to build back up...I'm at 5 months and there is still a huge difference between the two legs albeit much better than before, I'm starting to see some rounding on my outside quad and my VMO but I still have a very long way to go.
I was told 6 months at first but now more and more people are saying 1 year. It makes more sense actually. Be patient.
