KNEE ARTHRITIS - Autologous chondrocyte implantation (A.C.I.) :
will they lock me up? - - Posted by levyglen (levyglen), 13 September 2004
question fro anybody who's had ACI surgery: is your brace locked at full extension after surgery for an extended period of time? or is their some inflexion allowed?
the reason i ask is because i have stairs to contend with at home, and a brace that's locked at 180 degrees makes stair climbing much more difficult with crutches.
the devil is in the details...

Hi there,
I had MACI on the back of my patella four months ago. For the first couple of weeks after the op, my brace was locked in the range of 0-30 degrees flexion - according to my doctor, having the leg a little bent like this was easier on the back of the knee cap. This made going up stairs on crutches much easier too!!
If you need any further details, please feel free to message.
