KNEE ARTHRITIS - Total Knee Replacement :

Running after TKR - - Posted by Chuck (Chuck), 9 September 2003

Has anyone tried running, I don't mean long distance type, but short runs, after TKR?
If so, what have been your experiences?

Looking for advice,

Chuck

Hi Chuck. Belated response to your query is that 30 months after having both knees replaced I can jog about 100m before I really start to 'feel' my knees (age 61). I could probably go quite a bit further but don't feel the urge!. My physio says I've got about a million bends (surgeon says much more with my modern plastics) or 15 years of normal use so don't waste them jogging.
For aerobic exercise I cycle 15-20k twice a week and do a good steep 15 min. uphill walk once a week. It has an easy downhill option which I use as steep downhill is uncomfortable. Kayak and golf for upper body but need more excercise for this.
Delighted with the results of Bilat.TKR.
