KNEE ARTHRITIS - Diet and nutritional supplements :
newly diagnosed with osteo arthritis in knee - - Posted by Sooki (Sooki), 7 March 2004
I'm new to the board and wondered if I could ask your advice? Although I've had knee pain for over a year, it's just been diagnosed as osteo arthritis. I dont want to go the conventional medicine way, so could you please recommend the best thing to take for the dreadful pain I suffer, maybe homeopathic or herbal.
Also, is it normal to experience the pain in the upper leg, groin and hip area?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Sookie,
I have pretty bad post-traumatic arthritis and have tried some suppliments in the past which worked for awhile for me. Glucosamine and chondroitin are safe and may help with pain and possibly slow down the arthritis process. Some people also take MSM (which I don't know too much about). There is also some thought that antioxidant vitamins like vitamin C and vitamin E can help. Unfortunately there really aren't any conclusive scientific studies on any of these.
Good luck,
Danielle

Danielle,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, a couple of people have mentioned glucosamine, so I shall go to Holland and Barratt today to get some.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hi Sookie,
I reccomend that you try out the following website thats far cheaper then Holland and Barratt and purchase the following pills found on link below.
http://www.healthspan.co.uk/shop/product.aspx?id=GL5+
http://www.healthspan.co.uk (main webpage)
The Company based in Jersey so is tax free that has got a sale on at this present time. I aslo use a product called Devils Claw that u can read about on my Devils Claw posting just below your posting dated 06/12/03.
Not sure if they work as I not noticed much difference in knees but worth a trying as it takes up to 3 months for pills to work. Hope you get some relief soon and pills will help ease pain, Nick

hi there . About your upper leg, groin, and hip area. First, I would certainly tell your doctor about it! However, ask him/her if it could be pain resulting from your body being out of alignment--you are probably compensating from your knee pain by "walking funny." I was hit by a speeding drunk (as a pedestrian) 23 months ago. I have found help with massage--it's amazing how tight our muscles can get when they are doing other than their own jobs! I also now see a Sports Rehab fellow for gait training, and he does a lot of little things to help with all those underused, misused muscles as well.
Let us know how it goes for you, and good luck!
Meg
