TKR success or trouble? - - Posted by rickslick (rickslick), 27 August 2004

I've read many areas here in this board but have not seen to many people looking forward to a TKR. It seems many of you are trying to postpone this with all types of injections. My question is this..........Who here has had a TKR, what year did you have it and describe how it feels now and what activities are you able to do and not do.
Thanks......Rick

Hi Rick

Have you looked below in the arthritis section for the  TKR thread ? There are many postings there. I am getting a TKR in the next 6-8 mos. I found a website called delphiforums.com/onourfeet/jointreplacement to be a good site for info. It is an active forum for knee replacements with many postings daily. There are many helpful people with many having positive experiences and very happy they had the replacement done. That website has really helped me.

Hi Rick!

Many of the folks on this board are young and wanting to stave off the TKR for as long as possible. In my case, I had a patello-femoral replacement with a TTT, hoping to save the TKR for the final solution. Since there is fairly substantial bone resection with a TKR, younger patients who have a good chance of having revisions in the future are encouraged to try other things first. Saving the TKR for the final solution is common with OS's until they can come up with a prosthesis that will last a lifetime.

It is likely that you will see the not-so-successful stories here and they probably don't represent the majority of TKR patients. Everyone I have ever talked to in person who has had one, says that they wished they would have done it sooner and not wasted time in pain.

Good luck and make sure you trust your OS! That is quite a large portion of the battle!

Hi--I have been told that my knee is okay except that my patella is crumbled with arthritis. My ortho says patello-femoral only replacements are rare. Is that what you had? He suggested seeing Dr. John Fulkerson. Did you have any experience with him? How long ago did you have your and how are you doing. Well, I hope!  Quill

This old Forum was so valuable that we have kept it as an archive. It is just for reference. If you want to ask questions or offer advice, there is also a current Bulletin Board which you can access from our home page.
