NOTES - Surgical Procedures :

TTT: Modified Hauser technique-- legit? - - Posted by erinR78 (erinR78), 14 February 2004

I had my pre-op consultation with my OS yesterday, and had a chance to ask him quite a few questions that have been plaguing me about what to expect in surgery on the 24th (Lateral Release and TTT)...  I asked what technique he'll be using for the TTT, and he said a modified Hauser procedure.

Does anyone know what this entails?  I saw an archived chat string in here that speculated that a modified Hauser involved using a bone block to fasten the tibial tuburcle to the new location, instead of two screws, but my OS says he'll be using two screws on my TTT.

The only other mentions I've seen on the Web regarding the Hauser technique say that it is outdated, no longer used, and discussed for historical purposes only because it seems to drastically increase the risk of Osteo-Arthritis.  This makes me nervous, but I've heard good things about my OS (Dr. Champoux in WA state), so I don't really know what to think.

Feedback?

11 days to surgery...
