The patello-femoral joint :
Entrapped Plica - - Posted by crystal1978 (crystal1978), 5 January 2005
Hi all,
I am scheduled for surgery on 1/14. I have an entrapped plica and a tracking issue with the patella. The pain in my knee has become so much worse than it was a month ago. The OS did a MRI and came back with the whole Plica description. He also through in that they would fix everything while they were in my knee>>>> he seems to think there may be more than what was shown on the MRI. Has anyone had this plica removal surgery ? I go for my pre op at the beginning of next week. Also can an entrapped plica pull your patella off track?
Also thsi OS has had me on Darvocette and has now switched me to Ultracet, does anyone know anything about these drugs?

I cant seem to find much else on the topic. I am just wondering how long I will out of work. During your pre op appt does the doc usually give you more info about recovery?

Does anyone knoe about Ultracet, I swear I now have a pharmacy in my medicine cabinet!!!! 7 Days til the big DAY.... Im actually getting a lil nervous, I have my pre op on Monday... what do they do at Pre OP?

The reason why they do a pre op is because they need to check you over to make sure you understand the procedure you are going to have and that you are checked over by the anethesist. this invoves a blood pressure, pulse, temperature test.possible blood tests, xray of your lungs some times an ecg this is a check of your heart.they will explain to you about the procedure of the day example to make sure you know when not to eat or drink normally the night before, about the process of when you go to the theatre, when you wake from recovery and also the after care you eg pain killers, exercice, dressings. Always check your concent form which will explain the operation and take questions with you if you have concerns about the operation, the recovery period, medication ect.... Many people forget to ask and then they worry so if you write them down before your pre op this will help you.
I also think i have a simular problem I had an accident on my horse and they did an arthroscopy and a LR but this has sadley not worked. my mri last week showed i have 2 plica . I am having a second opinion, emg tests tomorrow as i have quad muscle wastage since surgery from LR. I am also booked in for an ultra sound in 2 weeks time. I never had problems with my knees before this accident, my meniscus, cruicals, patella tendon are all good. But since the surgery I limp also sometimes my knee gives way due to the loss of quad muscle and top of that i can not lift or strighten the leg. i have physio 2 times a week and i have had hydro which did not work this accident was in march 04 i had surgery july 04 and i am worse now then i was before the surgery
Good Luck
