Cruciate ligaments :
Second ACL reconstruction - - Posted by frenchyboy (frenchyboy), 29 September 2003
Anyone out there had their ACL reconstructed twice in the same knee and returned to sports afterwards? Done it playing footy again and have had no sympathy from the Mrs! Originally had a patellor tendon graft in Feb 99 on the right knee, which was a success until I had a monumental bike crash eight months later. I damaged the same knee again and had to have an arthroscopy to shave some cartlidge, the consultant then informed me I had torn and stretched the reconstructed ligament. Didn't give up that easy and got down the gym again for about four months then started playing footy again. Three trouble free years and yep I have snapped it again. If I can't have a second ACL reconstruction (prob a hammy if I can get them to do it) I have been thinking about a brace, anyone know of a football (soccer) specific brace that I can use. Got to be one that won't injure other players.
Hope there is someone out there with a story, advice or help.

I'm having my second ACL reconstruction (same knee) the day before thanksgiving. I tore mine again in late august during a soccer game. I have no choice regarding surgery, it has to be done because of the other repairs I have had. I haven't really thought about whether I am going to return to soccer or not. I would like to but It all depends on the outcome of surgery. I also have a severe MCL tear.

Hi,
I ve had the ACl reconned twice using hammy grafts but my knee is still loose and unstable.
I did get a good Donjoy 4titude brace and I could play tennis again. The brace is great and doesnt restrict me much, I feel quite safe wearing it.
Even though I need another ACL recon, I played a full season of softball and won the best batter trophy, not bad for someone in a brace.
I totally recommend a good brace.
