KNEE ARTHRITIS - Autologous chondrocyte implantation (A.C.I.) :

ACI on the Tibia Plateau anyone? - - Posted by Val_M (Val_M), 27 January 2004

I'm coming up to month 5 post fracture of my TP. It was a serious fracture requiring a hip bone graft to help repair it. I have large areas on the TP that are missing articular cartilage (hopefully it's fibrocartilage at least for now).

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of anyone having the above procedure on their tib plateau. Very simply, it's growing articular cartilage in a lab and transplanting that cartilage to the areas in the TP where it's missing. Apparently it works quite succcessfully on the femur articular cartilage and may prevent ever having a TKR.

Does anyone know much about this?
