Any Capoeiristas out there? - - Posted by Elly (Elly), 29 December 2004

Hello all,

Just a little question, are any of you Capoeiristas? I'd really appreciate being in touch with you if you are!

My group is Cordao de Ouro, Liverpool and Manchester, England, and I am first belt.

I tore my acl (completely..and it was before I started Capoeira) and have decided to have the surgery with hamstring graft (I did try managing the problem in all sorts of non-surgical ways but it continues to be worryingly problematic).

Anyway, sorry to waste your time if this all means nothing to you!

Beautiful art!  A place I used to train BJJ at also had a Capoeoira group.  I loved to watch them.  Very graceful!

Hi Elly/ Medusa  Smiley (if my non-existant Portuguese is up to it, that's your capoeira name??!!)

I'm not a Capoerista (yet), but would like to be!!

My name is Jay and I live in Clwyd.  I'm really interested in joining a Capoeira club and I guess that Manchester or liverpool would be nearest to me, although if you know otherwise please let me know!

Could you tell me please what your club's training times are and especially whether there are any weekend sessions?

Many thanks and all the best with surgery and training.

Bore da Jay!

Manchester definately trains on a Sunday - check out our website
http://cordaodeouro.sytes.net for all training times and places. (the website has had a few problems recently but keep trying if it's down!)

Our group is Cordao de Ouro (belt of gold). There is definately no branches of this group in wales - I bet there is some kind of Capoeira but you are much better to join a named group for LOTS of reasons, and I really like Cordao de Ouro.

Email me if you want more info!

Hwyl fawr,

Thanks Elly!  Much appreciated.  The website is currently down but I'll keep trying as I would love to give capoeira a go and Sunday would probably be the only time I could get up to Manchester.

My fiance got me the best present for Christmas- one of these red letter days which was an introduction to Capoeira in london!  Couldn't believe he managed to get it- it took him ages.  So I'll probably go down there in the next few months.

Hopefully see you round sometime once I've worked out what I'm doing!

Take care,

yeah, you'll see me, I'll be the one not playing cos she has to rehab her knee!

There's more than one group in London, but it's a posibility you could go to train with Cordao de Ouro. If you do it will be with one of the guys off the bbc advert when they're on the roof! One of those guys is the first Cordao de Ouro master to be teaching in England, he's called Mestre Poncianinho or sometimes Ponciano. The other teacher in London is a guy called Casquinho i think. They are both really good.

Let me know how it goes!
