The patello-femoral joint :

Damage on femoral joint - - Posted by nellypurple (nellypurple), 23 January 2005

I have been told by the MRI scan that I have bad damage on both my femoral joints and that really there is nothing I can do but good pain management and keep mobile. Is there anyone with similar probs?

Hi, is the OS you are seeing one that specializes  in knees.  You said you had patello-femoral joint damage, what kind of damage are you talking about?

Are you also going to be put into Physio Therapy as well as Pain Management.  PM will help with medications for pain relief.   PT will assess your condition and then design exercises for your specific problem.

If you want another opinion, you can always go back to your GP and get referred to an OS who is specialized in knees like the knee surgeons on the top of this page, maybe one of them is in your area.

Good Luck!

If the damage is to the femoral condyles then I would think the only option would be a joint replacement, of course i'm not a doctor,  but it's hard to find a surgeon who will perform this one someone under 55 years old. There are those that will in special cases.  However, since we are not doctors how can we say. Like Shade suggested seeing someone who specializes in the knee joint is vital in determining your opitions.

Goodluck and hope you can find some more helpful inforamation.

Thanks guys for your input, have changed my OS so I am hoping to see a knee specialist on the 17 Feb at long last. It was the doc at the pain clinic that was telling me about the results of the MRI.
As you say hopefully the knee man will go more into specifics and give me my options.

I hope you get some options, it's no fun living in so much pain. Sad
