Who's having a TKR in December? - - Posted by grannynan (grannynan), 29 November 2004

Hi!
I'm having a RTKR on December 7th.  Who else is having one in December?  Let's compare notes and support each other!

Hi.

I had my TKR on November 16.  I would like to hear from you.  How are you doing ?

I am doing fine I think.  I can walk short distances, drive
and I am working half days.  I still cannot fully extend my knee and sometimes feel I will never be able to.

I get very tired easily and this week and last week my knee flared up.  I had to put up the leg and rest completely.
Get in touch if you are interested.    Froggy

Hi, Froggy!
It sounds like you are starting to get your life back.  That certainly gives me some hope.

My extension is much better than it was prior to surgery - it's about -3 now, so I'm hopeful that it will get to 0.  My flexion isn't doing quite so well, but it's improving slowly.  I'm up to about 85 now without too much help.

I still get  very tired.  I feel pretty good for a couple of hours in the morning, then I'm toast for the rest of the day.

How do you finding working?  Does it really wear you out?  Does your knee feel better than it did prior to surgery yet?

I have been on long-term disability for the past couple of years and the plant I was just working at closed in November so I currently have no job to go back to.  The thoughts of looking for one completely overwhelms me.  My LTD will go on until June, so I still have some time to heal.

Take care,
Nancy.

Hi,

I am glad you got in touch.   it can feel pretty lonely.  How did you find the surgery on your knee ?  It sounds as if you feel better already.

I am still unable to straighten my knee .  I have given up physio this week as I felt I was being charged a lot of money for very litttle.  I can get my husband to help me with the exercises.   I am improving very slowly.
My knee is not as sore in bed and I can walk very slowly for 30-40 minutes.  But, I have pain in both my hips and my back.   My hips get very sore in bed.  I am hoping I am not developing arthritis in the hips.

Work is ok.  I am lucky as I can do more or less as much or as little as I want and I can stay at my desk.

How is your hip pain ?  What did the doctors say about it ?  Do you feel tired of not being able to move ?

Hope to hear from you.
Cheers   Froggy.

Ps I am 53 years old and I live in Ireland.  I had my TKR in France .
