Overuse problems of the knee :
Why is this so painful? - - Posted by Christina (Christina), 11 January 2004
Ok...Try to make this short...Fractured my right Tib Plat. in May...Had a fixation 3 screws...Full ROM by my first follow up...Walking within 4-6 weeks...working 10 weeks later. I started getting sharp stabbing pains in my knee...I would limp...My knee would buckle under weight bearing and I would fall...Locking up when sitting...etc...I ended up with hardware removal which was supposed to fix all.
That was november 5th...I felt fine at first but noticed that the pain on the opposite side of my injury increased (the inside of my knee) The OS said it was bursitis and It would go away by my next visit...I've had several visits since and its not gone...He said that with this type of injury it could take up to a year to heal. I tried to explain that the pain was getting worse and the back of my knee hurt...he pushed my knee back and again began to tell me that it takes a long time for injuries around the joint to heal
Well...Earlier today I was putting away groceries and I had that sharp pain again...my knee buckled...I fell...And the stabbing pain went on for a minute or so...now my knee hurts again and its warm...I'm begining to wonder whether or not I should call my OS (I just saw him last week and he said I didn't need to return til May)...He says there is nothing serious wrong...But I'm really starting to think I may have damaged something else in my knee...I have been reading about bursitis...I don't see anything about buckling of the knee...pain in back of the knee...Popping when i bend the wrong way...or it lasting this long.
Should I try and talk to my OS about this or should I wait like he said to...Its just I'm so affraid that if I wait and I did tear somthing...It might get worse...This pain shouldn't be here...should it?

Why not get a second opinion? My situation was totally different than yours as far as the knee injury, but I, too, listened to my doctor say that it takes a long time to heal, that I should just be patient. I really felt like something was wrong, but I hung in there. By the time I finally got a second opinion, my knee was really messed up with scar tissue problems. I wish I had gotten a second opinion sooner. If you feel you are having continuing problems, especially if you are getting worse, and your OS isn't listening, it's time to get a new doctor! Look for one who specializes in your particular problem.

I actually talked to my OS on Monday, and had an MRI on Friday...Wednesday I get the results so...I'll keep it posted

My MRI results came in saying that I had something wrong with my cartilage and meniscus tears...However, it was on the surgical side of my leg where I am no longer having pain...So the OS said that the results are probably showing repairs he has already made to my leg...Nothing came up on the side of my leg where the pain is....I didn't want to do a scope any time soon so he sent me to PT fo six weeks at the end of that if there is no relief in the pain I'm getting a scop to see what it could possibly be

You have Bursitis, My doc said i had bursitis yestarday. I think it is pretty mild though because it doesnt always hurt. My original problem was my knees click on every extention and they vibrate when i put my hands over then, as if it were a unoiled hinge. The pain is pretty random. When it starts hurting i just dont move. I go lie down on the bed or something. I am going to see a physical therapist soon.
There are three bursas in your knee. I have intrapatellar Bursitis. Yours might not be the same one. I am hoping it will heal. My doctor says it might not. GRR I am only 15 and if it doesnt heal, I'm going to be Really mad. I think you should see another doc and go through some therapy
