KNEE ARTHRITIS - Autologous chondrocyte implantation (A.C.I.) :

Injectable Cartilage Gel - - Posted by blue_ezzie (blue_ezzie), 18 January 2005

Greetings to Team ACI!

This is nowhere near the stage of development where it will help our knees but, for interest, check out the press release on the development of an injectable cartilage gel:

http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-12/acs-gc120904.php

If you can make head or tail out of advanced chemistry then try reading the actual journal article (I'll stick to the press release!):

http://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/sample.cgi/bomaf6/2005/6/i01/html/bm049508a.html

Something to keep an eye on anyway! Just goes to show that knees are a lucrative business - thanks to professional sporting people - and developments are happening in this area all the time.

Regards to all

Interesting.  The material they mentioned - hyaloric acid - is the active part of the synvisc injections.  I've also heard about people taking this orally on the natrual supplements board.

Oh that's interesting! I've never heard of that. Have you ever tried taking it orally? I take Glucosamine-Chondroitan, no idea if it works or whether I'm just improving naturally.

I have not tried the oral supplement.  Apparently it's been used in veterinary circles for years.  There are a few posts about it on the nutritional supplement boards.  Check them out.  Personally, I'm waiting till after I see my dr. next month, and I will ask him about it.  I'll let you know what he says.

This old Forum was so valuable that we have kept it as an archive. It is just for reference. If you want to ask questions or offer advice, there is also a current Bulletin Board which you can access from our home page.
