Bone breaks around the knee :

Two Years Ago Today... - - Posted by kgrosskurth (Kathy G), 14 September 2004

...I joined the ranks of the Broken legged by a very stooooopid accident that I share in my diary (the link is in my signature block below - feel free to check it out if you have nothing better to do!  Wink )

Believe it or not, this last year has gone by quickly, and though I am not quite at 100%, I have my life back for the most part and I am still working at it EVERY DAY.

I just want to share with you guys how important it is to be patient plus persistent as it takes both to recover from such a horrific break. No matter how frustrating, DO NOT EVER GIVE UP. Also Do what your PT or Dr. says (unless you know they are not right, then get a second opinion or a third, etc. until you get what you need) and you will get better.

And although I am not as frequent a poster as I used to be (I do Lurk quite a bit still but I don't have much time to post), I also appreciate the support of all of you who have ever posted on KneeGeeks. Your encouragement, support, etc. mean so much to me - more than you will ever know. And thanks especially for the creators of this site!

Best wishes for continued healing to all! Smiley

Hey KG! Won't it be amazing when we can pass an anniversary without much thought? One year ago from today, I was still over a month away from getting WC permission for a second opinion. I was just getting off of my crutches and wondering if I would ever walk or sit again with any degree of comfort and assurance, as well as agonizing over the expiration of my handicapped parking permit.

Though I have some less-than-good days, I now pass up those handicapped spots with a sense of gratitude. In fact, I almost always have a silly little smile on my face as I walk through a parking lot. I'm glad you are also back in the ranks of those who can walk from a distant parking spot! What a journey it's been, so here's a virtual toast to silly little smiles Cool. . .

Thanks to both of you, LizL and SFMama -

Yes, LizL, what a journey it has been. Though I'm not 100%, I am getting closer and refuse to give up. Glad to see you are getting along better these days as well, and I pray like you do that we will be able to pass future anniversaries with very little thought Wink

SFMama, thanks for your kind words. I know I am not on much these days (well, I AM but I do not write as much, just got a lot going on these days), but I feel it's important to give back what I have been provided by MBL and KneeGeeks. I am glad to hear that relating to my experience is helpful and appreciated.

Again you two, thanks and best wishes for continued healing and recovery!!  Grin

I'm glad I took a moment to check in today and found your posts.  Unbelieveably I had forgotten that next week it will be 2 years since my broken patella.  Like Kathy & Liz I have regained my life and have a deep appreciation for all the little things I used to take for granted.  When I happened upon Kneegeeks I was getting depressed.  It was and is so very helpful. Thanks to everyone that takes the time to share your knowledge and experiences.   Cheesy

Hiya Clare! Glad you stopped by. I hope this next year is even better for you and that you can get past all those issues with your knee. Thanks again for writing and I hope to see you soon in MBL and KneeGeeks!!  Grin

You all give me hope.  I'm facing my first year broken patella anniversary next month and I'm still having difficulty.  I am amazed at how long this recovery can be and at how many problems can arise.

Glad to hear that you're all doing well and wishing you good luck.  I am so glad I found this board.  It has been solace for me to know that I am not alone with this lonely injury.

Thanks for your reply, Joy. I know what you mean - this board has been a GODSEND! I still lurk from time to time eventhough I'm not on much to post these days.

Best wishes to you in your recovery as well. And thanks for writing - have a blessed day!  Grin

...In the past month, I've heard several people comment on how well I'm walking. Granted, there are times that I get tired and will fall into a slight limp, but for the most part, my walking is near 100%. I can even slightly run to move out of the way of a car coming at me in the parking lot!! Wink I can also negotiate stairs now without holding on to the railings every time, which is something I NEVER Thought I would do!!! Grin

Again, it is important to keep at it and not give up - that is my legacy and I'm sticking to it! Smiley

Thanks again everyone for your support and happy healing to all!  Grin
