Overuse problems of the knee :

What is the 'bump' in Osgood Schlatter's disease? - - Posted by Michelle_Grabert (Michelle_Gr), 8 March 2003

Hi Everyone,
I have Osgood-Schlatter's Disease in both of my knees and I know that the bump is supposed to be there but I was wondering, because I heard someone call it something before, what is the bump called?  And I know that the bump is caused by something separating, does anyone know what?
   Thanks
                                          Michelle

The bump is called the tibial tuberosity or tibial tubercle and is where the patellar tendon attaches to the tibia bone. Here is an article to help you -

Click on the X-ray to see a good picture -

The condition is known as a 'traction apophysitis' - this means 'a condition where there is unusual pulling stress on a growth plate or tendon attchment'.
