KNEE ARTHRITIS - Cartilage plug transfer :

DanQBKnee Update - - Posted by jackpowell (jackpowell), 3 June 2004

Hi Dan,

It has been 8 months since your OATs.  How are you doing?

To clarify, I actually had a bone graft performed back in September and not OATS.  The graft was taken from an area on the top of the tibia and not from an area within the knee.  The graft was mixed with some type of substance( need to refer to my operative note, not sure of its name) and inserted into my chondral defect in the lateral femoral condyle.

The graft is doing fine and seems to have filled in well at last check up with MRI and X-Ray about 6 weeks ago.  My complications now are Arthorfibrosis.  On top of the OCD lesion which we worked on, I had severe Arthrofibrosis from the ACI harvesting procedure.  Who knows how I ever got the fibrosis from that simple scope !

I had a Mainpulation with scope in late October which helped things, but I still have lingering Arthrofibrosis.  Only does the knee feel somewhat normal is after going to the gym and doing lots of low resistance cycling, elliptical and stretching.

I am holding off doing any more procedures this year, due to the amount of work done on my knee the past 11/2 years.   The knee continues to get stronger and muscle strength is slowly returning. I just need to get over the Arthrofibros which really screws with your biomechanics, hopefully not permanently in my case.
