Failed TTT - - Posted by sso (sso), 19 January 2005
Hi, Has anyone out there had a failed TTT? Mine was done on 1/15/04 and I have still not recovered. In fact I'm looking forward to more surgery to repair all the tendons that were cut. I also had a LR. Anyway I could golf before surgery, and now I can't walk down inclines and have a very unstable kneecap. I have had three dislocations since surgery, and multiple subluxations. My os even wants me to go see Dr. Fulkerson to see what he thinks we should do. I just want to know if anyone else was made worse by their TTT or if they were able to get it fixed and how? Please help...

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know I have also had 2 failed TTT's and I just got back from seeing Dr. Fulkerson, and he just called me back today. He is so wonderful, I highly reccomend him, he told me the surgery I need to have done, which is actually reconstructing both my medial and lateral sides because I am unstable going both ways and he was able to mimick the medial subluxing, which was great because I wasn't sure I had that. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I flew there the day after Christmas on a pass, which was hell in the airport, but I am glad I went. Email me if you want to talk or more information. Heather K. Hey there!!
I am another Heather who has had 4 TTTs on the right knee and 2 on the left with another to be done shortly (I hope). I have had to have my MPFLs reconstructed as well as having to have my lateral retinaculum reconstructed as I should have never had a lateral release in the first place (that was the first surgery that was done to "realign" my patella 10 years ago).
Fortunately I have an amazing surgeon who is willing and able to take care of whatever I need done on my knees.
If you want any other info, just IM me or e-mail me (my address is in my profile) and I will do my best to give you any help I can.
Hugs-
Heather G.

Your condition could be either easy or difficult to solve, depending on the cause of your symptoms.
Instability can be caused by weakness, in which case you don't need more surgery.
If the kneecap is slipping to the inside, the lateral release may need to be closed somewhat.
An orthopedist such as myself or Dr. Fulkerson would need to examine you to give you more specific advice.
Good luck!
