collagen meniscus implant trials - - Posted by tman4488 (tman4488), 16 November 2004

Hello.

I am new to the group.
I had a partial lateral meniscus trim 12 yrs ago.
It has given me some problems.  Does anyone know how to get on the list for lateral collagen meniscus implant trials?

My OS put my name on the list and I waited for 3 months to get a match for my lateral meniscus transplant. Make sure you see an OS who is experienced in the transplants.

I dont know of the trials your talking about but just to let you know, for me the implant has not been that successful. In january last year i had my first CMI, all went well i stuck through the two months on crutches and the hot weather in that brace.. well at least i thought until three months later more surgery showed the implant was gone.. for no reason. I stuck through it a second time in july.. but after the first week i had a fall which landed me back in hospital.. my surgeon couldn't do anything except say stick to the program and well see how it goes. Three months later an MRI showed the operation had failed once again, i knew it was my fault but it was still disappointing. I just had my third implant done on the 5th of jan this year.. im back in the brace and on crutches.. but i guess all the pain and restriction is only going to be worth it if the operation actually works, im only 17 and this operation is my last chance the only thing left for me in a knee replacement im expected to have in 4 years if this one fails.. i guess its just something you might want to think about, surgeons dont really talk about unsuccessful surgeries.
