Overuse problems of the knee :

leg length and pelvic tilt - - Posted by kenyoncycleist (kenyoncycleist), 1 March 2004

my lower left leg is shorter than the right and i also feel like there is some sort of pelvic tilt involved too.  i am a competitive cyclist and have had this prob for years...i use shims in my cleats but it doesnt always help an i still feel like my body is tilted.  it helps when i wear a patella strap like for jumpers knee,, but the pain is not in the patella tendon but in the interior quad muscle on the inside of my leg at the very end of the muscle in sort of an arc.  how can a cyclist deal w. pelvic tilt cause it feels like all the pressure is on my right sit bone when i ride  Huh

Hey there
I dont have anything to offer regarding your posted message. I come to kneegeeks because of an injury sustained playing hockey(ACL and MCL tears).
I have an interest in cycling and have been doing quite a bit to keep the leg in shape.  Although it is not the kind of mileage a competitive cyclist does, I managed 5000km last summer(pre injury)and was just starting into training for a fast century when the injury happened. I have only managed 2500km so far this summer and it is all endurance.  I cant hammer the cranks or stand up onthe pedals without discomfort inthe knee.
I am looking for a bit of advice from you as a cyclist.
I recently got a new saddle and installed it.  I think the fore/aft position was off quite a bit and my knee has swollen badly with the swelling extending both above and below the knee into the calf and quad muscles.
Can a big shift in the saddle position be a contributing factor here?  The saddle height was ok but my knee was about 3cm ahead of the pedal spindle. I only did 2 rides on the new saddle when the problem occurred. 80km and 50 km. which are rides of similar duration to what I have been doing since April. I have moved the seat back but due to the swelling I have laid off the bike this week.
I may have to take next week off too if this thing doesnt smarten up. Too bad the Tour de Lance is over. At least I could watch something good on the tube.
