KNEE ARTHRITIS - Changing the forces through the joint :

cost of a HTO - - Posted by jeraboa (jeraboa), 28 August 2003

Hello-

I'm trying to get an approximate cost- total- (MD fee, hardware, hospital, anesthesiologist, rehab, etc.) for a high tibial osteotomy.  I haven't been able to find that anywhere on the net and we are trying to do some planning on the monetary aspect of the surgery.  The OS said his fee is appx $3200, but didn't have a clue about the rest.  I spoke to the nurse and she advised it is a 2 day hospital stay and this particular surgeon does not use bone grafts but hardware.

If anyone who has gone through it knows an approximate cost it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

When I had my first HTO in Oct. 2001 ( the one that never healed ) I believe the cost to be around $25,000. I remember my brother having part of a lung removed about the same time and his surgery was about $250,000. I thought about how much cheaper mine was.

With my insurance I have to pay 10% up to $25,000. So I paid about $2,500. Not counting prescriptions and co-pays. All that for a surgery that never healed and was never told that. When this is over I'm considering legal action. Take care, Larry
