Overuse problems of the knee :

Basketball and jumper's knee - - Posted by dove_g (dove_g), 3 April 2003

Hi to all.
Nice to see that we have this forum, great.
My question is, does somebody can tell me what's wrong with my both knees?

I noticed this before 2 years, but here is now again with higher pain which doesn't stops after playing even in 1 week.
When I try to play basketball I can't jump, feel the pain when I try to jump (on every fast and explode 'try' jumps, or fast leg movement). I feel pain in the front of knees when I go a little down and then try to fast jump (it hurst me and prevets me to jump Sad When I force it doing to try relax, warm up my knees, run a while for 5 minutes, pain is completely gone, can't feel a thing, and can play normally.

But after basketball play in 15 minutes when cool down I feel pain in knees which make my knees very hard job to stand up on my legs I must use arms to prevent knee pain when I try to stand up (in most cases we play streetball, on asphalt). This pain I feel for for 1-2 weeks and every day is better.

I have play before 1 week and still feel the pain, and now I'm unsure I don't dare to play it again and I'm afraid; can't watch people play basket Sad

I'm 26 years old (192cm, 91 kg), I have play and train karate for 2 years and basketball for 3-4 years when I was 17-22 and with trainings I always work out with weights. I have very strong legs and I'm afraid that my strong leg muscles and high weights ruin my knees.

I'm now here, so somebody please advice me what to do. I have been always hard worker and love hard training, but now my knees stops me. I think to cool down with it and try something new, slow and easy methods (yoga leg trainig, karate style soft knee and legs training etc, don't know).

Please advice me and tell me what do you think I have, so I can't try to resolve my problem.
Thank you.

P.S.
I have heard that high temperature in childhood also can damage knees etc..., but I'm thinking that my overload weights lifting, and hard jumping has damaged my knees.

Wouldn't hurt you to go see an orthopedic surgeon.  In the meantime, it helps to ice your knee after you've used it or when it hurts, take something like ibuprofen or naproxen sodium, and try to avoid jumping around until you know more about what's going on.

Good luck!

I have found on net and I know what do I have.
It's called jumping knee or patellar tendinosis (sometimes known at wrong word tendinitis).

It heals a long time, 100 days or sometimes even 4-6 months. I must stop all jumping activities, and start to RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate knee).
I need collagen, vitamin C and a lot of fruits and vegetables.

After 2 months I will try with some minor training, yoga, extensions etc... No more hard training and work for 4-6 months.

Surgeon operation is last option, in some cases it doesn't to be the best option. So always first is best to try to heal in natural way.

Have a nice day.

Hey,

It's good that you got some idea of what might be wrong on the web, but it may still help to go to a doctor.  They might be able to give you a list of exercises for at-home therapy as well as other at-home care that is more tailored to your problem specifically.  They should also confirm the diagnosis.

Good luck, and I hope things start getting better for you!

Cheers,
