The patello-femoral joint :
Recurrence of grinding after lateral release - - Posted by chica_2626 (chica_2626), 24 September 2002
Today...was bad!! When I was at PT I could feel a familiar grinding in my knee and asked my PTA to look at it. He was looking at my knee for a little bit and said it looks like my knee is a little off track again!! Hopefully it doesn't go way off track though!! I mean...before my surgery my kneecap was visibly not in the center!! I dunno what to do I was so upset at the thought of the problems starting all over again I've been crying all day!!! I thought things were getting soooo much better and now this!! I am so mad and it's just not fair!! I mean obviously it's not the end of the world but it was just about the last thing I wanted to hear after a bad day at school!!!! Well....just wanted to vent...

Oh Chica,
I totally understand how you feel - i have been there. But try to pick yourself up and keep going. It may be that the muscle weakness after your LR means it is a little off-track and once your quads get stronger they will pull it back into line.
And a little off-track is still better than where you were, right? My right knee had a LR and medial reefing seven years ago and it is a little wonky still but hasn't dislocated or subluxed since then and really gives me very little trouble.
Try and stay strong - and vent here if you need to.
Take care,
Liz

I know how you feel!! Setbacks can be soooo discouraging, I know!! First I couldn't get my SLR and my OS threatened another surgery! Now, my knee is maltracking again! My PT totally reassured me though and said it was only because my quads are not back to full strength yet post-op. Hang in there! Things WILL get better!!
