Bone breaks around the knee :

Severely Comminuted TP fracture in both legs...... - - Posted by Roks (Roks), 8 October 2004

It will be 2 years on Nov. 23, 2004 since I broke both legs falling 23ft. from a cliff. My right leg has healed fairly well, but my left seems to be getting worse.  I cant fully extend my left leg, which causes a severe limp when walking. I'm in need of emergency advice on what exactly to concentrate on, or I have a feeling my leg will stay like this.  Has anyone else had this problem regaining ROM, so late in the game, or have I just neglected to exercise up to this point? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.           Thanks, Tina

Are you having physio?  When I was having problems with ROM in my leg, they strapped me into a machine which bent and straightened my leg for me, and I built up the rom with that, but in my case, my leg had locked straight, and it was only a couple of months post-op.  A physio should be able to give you more information though, if you can get to see one.

Hi, Tina - you sure have had a time of it, huh?

Hefa has a good suggestion - schedule an appt. with a physio to see what s/he says re: the chance to regain ROM in your leg. As for me, I continue plugging away with my stationary bike and have started using the treadmill.

Have you tried laying stomach down on a bed and,  while hanging your knee over the edge, putting weight on the bottom part of your leg? That may help straighten it. Stretching in warm water may help as well. Of course, you may want to consult with that physio first, but if your leg is otherwise healed, I do not see where doing this will hurt.

At any rate, Tina, I pray you can move past this and begin to fully recover! Grin
