KNEE ARTHRITIS - Autologous chondrocyte implantation (A.C.I.) :

Post op paranoia - slips, knocks and falls - - Posted by hoopsa (hoopsa), 12 January 2004

hello all,

first post having read most of the threads.

I'm 3 weeks post op and things seem like they're going ok. My recovery so far seems to match alot of the other people on this board - just getting over the op and starting to do physio to increase ROM and build up the muscles.

The one thing I'm most concerned about at the moment is damaging the implant. I know that I've got to be double careful esp to avoid twisting etc but these things can happen.

I've accidently put weight on my bad leg a couple of times but after initial pain all seems well.

I've read amongst the threads various mentions on this topic but I thought it would be good to collate peoples' experiences in one place so that anyone with the same concerns can find out about it.

Thanks
hoopsa

I had aci done june 2003,  I have a lot of pain in my knee, I placed my weight on the bad leg lots of time after the aci, do you think this is why i am having  pain 1  1/2 year later.

Hi,
I'm just over 6 weeks post op and I've had a few stumbles on my bad leg, after the intitial pain, its been ok, don't worry unless you really twist it whilst falling. My knee is still grinding and clicking a little too, so I thought my graft was damaged, but the physio said that this is normal. So I'm not concerned at this point.
Hope this helps.
Jules
