KNEE ARTHRITIS - Total Knee Replacement :

not at my age surely!!! - - Posted by sportsmad (sportsmad), 21 March 2004

hi all
I am a 42 year old man who had a motorbike accident 5 years ago and is now due a new knee. my pre-clerk is on 30th march and have been told my TKR will be within 4 weeks of that. Does anyone know of the oxinium knee and if it is available on the national health. I have heard that it is more hard wearing but still experimental.
This may sound daft but are there any questions that i should ask at my pre-clerking that i will kick myself for not asking.
       Thanks for reading.

Hi sportsmad,

I am the one that has the Oxinium knee replacement.  This implant is NOT experimental at all!  It has been on the market for years but due to the expense it hasn't been used much.

What country are you in?  I'm in the U.S.

Hi Jan L.
Iam hoping that we in Britain are as up to speed as you Americans, i doubt it, but would be grateful of anything you may know that would help.Am hoping to ask for this knee as the feedback that ive had is that it is a better option. Just hope its available on our National health.
