The patello-femoral joint :

Patella femoral - - Posted by MeGR (MeGR), 20 January 2005

Hey...My name is Megan...I have never done this before.  I was looking up something on my knee and ran into this. It kinda looks fun...People who have the same problems as you. Anyways I am 13 years old and have knee surgury 2 times already and getting ready to have it again. Undecided I had a patella femoral relignment last April.  I had to have this operation because i can dislocate both of my knees by myself. I can do it with two hands and my doctor can do it with his pinky.  It caused a lot of pain for me and was very difficult. My doctor over-sewed two or more ligaments together, broke my tibia in half moved it over 10 mm and screwed it in place. He also scoped it for tears. That was the first surgury...the next one was simply taking the screws out. I had two 3 inch screws in my knee. My bones could not hold them and so you could feel them through my skin. This hurts really bad! Because he had to take out the screws, my knee cap moves around still. The worst thing about this is that i also have it in my other leg.  It bothers me a ton but it is not as bad as my right one was. Now its my decision whether i need to have that one fixed. Nah, i don't want to but i am a competetive dancer and I play soccer at a high level. So its handle the pain or no game.  Anyways i went to the doctor today to do a post op check and look at the other knee.  I am good with the surgical knee...the othe one uhh! Embarassed  I have to have chrostozone shots to see if my plica will go down.  It snaps a lot...most of all scaring me but it hurts too...he is also worried about the instability of my knee. he said he could sublux it so i let him because i can handle that...but he couldnt dislocate it!  So he says after the shots he is going to scope it...fine with me i don't careabout that it will be my 3rd surgury but in his opinion...i will never have normal knees!  It sucks when your 13 and can't live life the way you want it! Well thanks for listening sorry this was kinda long!!!!

Welcome To Kneegeeks

Hey Megan, welcome to Kneegeeks. Undecided Though, i'm real sorry that you have to be here. I hope you find lot's of good support here though. I know what you mean about being 13 and not being able to just be a kid. I've had Patello Femoral problems since I was 8... though i'm 24 now, I know what you are going through.  Atleast we have a great place like this with people who understand us. Cheesy Though you've been through alot more at 13 then I have been..in all of my years...hopefully that means that your knees will work for you better then mine work for me.
I just wanted to welcome you ... say Hey, and let you know that you are not alone.
Hang in there...
