KNEE ARTHRITIS - Total Knee Replacement :

1 Yr. & 6 Mos. - can't bend my knees when walk - - Posted by KyGirl (KyGirl), 12 August 2004

It has been 18 months since I had bilateral knee replacement.  I have had to give up my job and go on disability.  I am 57 years old.  I went to rehab for over 12 months.  My knees simply will not bend when I walk, and my gait looks really strange.  However, I can bend my knees when I am not walking.  My doctor thinks my brain has forgotten to tell my legs to bend.

Just wondered if anyone else has ever had this problem?

Thanks a lot......  Ky Girl

SadI have had a total knee replacement 9 months ago and the cement came loose and I cant hardly walk. Now I have to have another DR take it out and do it again. Also it is too big for my knee.  MaggieRose

How did you find out what the problem was?  What type of test did they do?

I do know that my knees are very loose, so it is possible the I could have the same problem.

Would you mind telling me what state you live in, or who the doctor was who found the problem?

Thanks so very much for your reply!

CryI went to a new orthopedic surgeon and he did x-rays and blood work and a bone scan. Wednesday I am going to another orthopedic surgeon and get a 3 rd opinion from him. I am taking the x-rays and bone scan with me. I am so tired of all the pain. I have had to retire and collect social security. But now I cant hardly walk so I cant do anything but stay home. All because this DR didnt put cement on it. I just wish i could do his knee .  Grin

Same situation with me MaggieRose.  I am in constant pain, and I can't walk very far nor stand too long.  I spend most of my time at home too.

Your doctor must have been in a rush to forget to put the cement in, but I have heard all kinds of horror stories.  It certainly sounds like you have grounds for a lawsuit.

I am going to ask my family doctor to do a bone scan.  I have had x-rays done already.  I am going to go to a doctor in Charlotte, NC for a third opinion.

Take care, and I appreciate the info. Roll Eyes
