Bone breaks around the knee :

arthroscopy pros/cons help please - - Posted by booms (booms), 23 January 2005

Hello everyone,

I had my patella crushed into many pieces in a accident (December'03). After 3 surgeries (2 op's to fix the patella, 1 op to remove hardware), the pieces have joined and i have full ROM. yipppeeee. Smiley Smiley Smiley
However, the patella is rubbing the inner knee and the docs suggest an arthroscopy. They aren't sure how much it would help cause the patella is in very bad shape. Please tell me the pros and cons of scopy. How much can they mess up? Some docs dont' suggest arthroscopy cause i'm only 25yr and arthroscopy is not good for me. i don't know exact reason why... any information would help. Thanks

Hi, Booms. Arthroscopy may help, but I would think an MRI may help diagnose the problem before having the Doc. go in with a scope. Of course if you still have hardware, it may be necessary to do the scope for exploratory action since the hardware makes the MRI hard to read.

Wishing you all the best! Grin
