Sprained MCL and Running - - Posted by KevinQ (KevinQ), 20 January 2003

HI, i have recently sprained my MCL. My question is, should / can i continue to run on it with a knee support or is it advisable to take some time out from trainig completely? i run 6 miles three times per week?

Hi!

Thanks! That link helps me too.

I had a 1st degree sprain of my MCL on August 24th... and it still feels a bit wierd when I go for long walks.

I did see a doctor, who suggested PT & x-rays. The x-rays didn't show anything, but my PT trainer gave me a few exercises. My PT trainer thought I had also  "crunched" some of my cartilage...

I still can't fully straighten or lock my knee, but I can fully bend it (ie. squatting).

I used to run 4km 3-4 times a week. My PT trainer suggested swimming and biking.

It's been like 5.5 weeks and I'd like to try jogging again soon... Any suggestions? Maybe I should go back to running 1 minute, walking 1 minute and repeat 15 times? I was up to 30 minutes continuous running.

Thanks!
Laura
