The patello-femoral joint :
Bad subluxation - - Posted by Linds (Linds), 15 January 2005
Hi Everyone so I was just in the kitchen today reaching for something on a high shelf with most of my weight on on my right leg, and when the muscles in my left leg contracted my patella subluxed...laterally.. It was so painful I screamed...it's still so sore now.
This is the worst subluxation i've ever had... I think if I hadn't noticed, my kneecap might have just kept on going.
OUCH... I've got the ice on it and the PTO betwenn icings... it really hurt.
Thanks for letting me vent...

Wow Linds, this has not been a very good week.
Try to get your knee up and keep icing. Sorry for all this new pain, you did not need more!!!

Hi,
I'm new to this forum but my sympathies are with you having gone through patella subluxation myself. I usually find that after 3-4 days the swelling starts to go down and you start to feel better day by day.
I've had problems with one knee for the past 18 years. It has got worse over the years and I am sure I should have got it sorted out sooner.
14 years ago I had a LR which did absolutely nothing, but I having MR done, smoothing the patella, and removing a loose boney bit in 6 weeks. Finally the combination of having a second child, and impending redundancy, got me in gear to take advantage of my company medical insurance ASAP!
I had the option of TTT, but want to see if my problems can be fixed by less surgery if possible. The surgeon did suggest TTT on top of the procedures already mentioned, but I felt a bit uncomfortable having it all done at once.
Cheers,
Nick

Hey Nick, well... I hear ya buddy. I have had knee problems for 16 years... i'm 24. I have had a LR on both of my knees which it would seem hasn't solved the problems ... yet. The right knee was done 3 years ago and the left 5 months ago. The right knee, hasn't subluxed but it still catching and clunks around... and the chondromalacia is nasty. I'm in a frustrating position right now as there are no surgeons in my area who specialize in these sorts of knee problems, the guy I have... he's the Knee specialist for this area... and well, once he's done a LR if it doesn't work..it would seem that's the end of the line...
Furstration...
I hope that you get your knees sorted out, having kids and all, i'm sure you'd like to be active.
Take good care, and thanks for your response, and welcome to Kneegeeks.
