Cruciate ligaments :
15 and already had 5 Ops to ligament - - Posted by Kaz (Kaz), 17 January 2005
Hi, i was 11 when i had a bad gymnastics accident and i pulled the ligament away from the bone also causing the bone to break off, i had a repair done on my ligament but they didnt replace it. I am now 15 and have had problems for the last 4 yrs with this leg its been very unstable and giving way alot and ive had a further 4 arthroscopys (sorry if thats spelt wrong) done. And now theyve found out my ligament is totally lax and useless, so the specialist has said i am to have a full ligament replacement and ive heard the operation is successful but i would like to know what is going to happen after the operation e.g will it be in a cast, or will i be in a wheelchair for a while afterwards which ive heard you can be? if anyone has any answers id love to hear them plz, thnx n ta x

I'd read a few more threads on this board including "How painful is this surgery", "17 weeks post op & pain under the kneecap", and a few ACL posts under the post op. diary. It'll give you an idea of what to expect.
Casts are virtually unheard of these days. Everyone's experiences are different. I was on pain killers every day for 6 weeks after the surgery but others have been off crutches in 3 days...
