Cruciate ligaments :

ACL Replacement - Which Surgeon?? - - Posted by JPW (JPW), 11 April 2003

Hi All,

Just had it confirmed that I've torn my ACL (plus damage to my medial ligament and heavy bruising on patella) and I'm now looking for the best poissible surgeon to carry out the 'procedure'.

I've been seeing Jonathon Lavelle at the Lister Hospital, but after doing a little research, have found very little information (positive or negative) on him. It looks like Dr Strover and Andrew Williams are most recognised in London...can you please provide some advice on these three, in particular Mr Lavelle, so that I can choose the right one!!

I'm 24 and hope to continue playing football and volleyball at a very competitive level.

Many Thanks

Jon

Jon,
I have had loads of surgery by a well respected knee surgeon elsewhere in the South East.  However I have ongoing problems and he has recommended that I see either Jonathon Lavelle or Andrew Williams for further surgery.

I think either would do a very good job on an ACL reconstruction so I can't see any point in changing doctors. Dr Strover is very well respected too

KJ,

Thanks very much for the advice...although my physio reccommends him highly, there's very little info out there about Jonathan Lavelle, so I just want some confirmation that I'm seeing the right person.

There's so many posts on this site where ACL recons have gone wrong that I'm very concerned about it being done right the first time.

Anyone else out there have advice on pre-op physio or have any experience/heard anything about Jonathan Lavelle, Andrew Williams or Angus Strover?

Many Thanks

Jon

Jon,

I have just found out that I have to have an ACL replacement too.  I have an appointment with Jonathon Lavelle next week and want to find out if you ended up getting your surgery done by him and if so what you thought of him and how is your knee now?  Are you back playing football?

Thanks

James

My OS is Glen Vardi who works between the London Bridge Hospital and the Garden Hospital in Hendon.
Good guy, great with information & communication and pretty competent.
In fact I have my 3 month post op review in 40 mins and am nervous.

Jon,

Was there any reason you didn't go with Jonathon Lavelle?

Hope your checkup goes ok.

I did go with him and he was brilliant...would be lots to talk you through if you're interested, hence offer to chat on the phone as I type as fast as a baby elephant
