The patello-femoral joint :

patello femoral syndrome - - Posted by SkateSkateSkate (SkateSkateSkate), 14 January 2005

I was diagnosed with patello femoral syndrome by a sports doctor.   My knee caps pull inward like knock knees.  The doctor told me no running or hills or things that put alot of pressure on the knees and said to do straight leg lifts with weights which I stopped doing recently because I saw no improvement and it seemd like it hurt my knees worse.

Are there any other exercises I can do to help?  Someone said leg lifts and turn my foot inward or outward (I forget)

Please give me any suggestions/advice  Smiley

Hi there, I do SLR with foot turned outward, seems like you have squinting patellae also.  I also do half arc exercises, heel slides and calf stretches.

These are the normal PT exercises and I do them 3 times per day (pain permitting).  You can not do enough SLR.  If weights bother you just do them without the weights.

Do not do step, lunges or wall slides (stresses knees).

Hope this helps.  There are exercises in the gym section of the first page of kneeguru.

Shadehawk made some good suggestions, you might just want to go to a Physiotherapist and get some exercises for your knees. Straight leg raises with your foot turned outwards and your foot dorsiflexed (your foot flexed pulled towards your head) are really great, but there are lot's of great exercises. A Physiotherapist is the best person to decide what will be good for you and help your particular problems. I know my Physiotherapist has to adjust my exercises for me...cause everything hurts so much.
Goodluck
take good care of those knees

Sorry, you are right Linds, you should go to a PT and you will also be taught how to do the exercises in a correct manner.
You can also get ultrasound and acupunture treatments for pain from most PT instructors, sometimes this is very helpful also.

Take care.  Smiley
