KNEE ARTHRITIS - General principles of managing Osteoarthritis of the knee :

Vioxx taken off market today - - Posted by shadehawk (shadehawk), 30 September 2004

Vioxx gone as of today states CNN.

This will surely effect many arthritis suffers out there.

Celebrex will still be available though.

I personally know many people who rely on vioxx for their pain relief and it is a blow to them that it will not be available anymore.

Hope this does not effect many people on this board.

Unfortunately there was no ignoring the effects that it had--in clinical trials the negative (serious) side effects for Rofecoxib (vioxx) were twice what the other meds (celebrex and naprosyn) had.

If anyone is interested in the numbers, you can go to
http://www.periopdjd.org/

And click on the 'Start Presentation' button, then click 'begin' and then choose 'begin' again--basically, you want to get to the menus of the presentation.  Then click the lower left presentation, by Dr. Glasser (Challenges of Management of DJD) or something like that.  If you scroll through the slides, you will see a series on the studies of Vioxx vs other meds for OA.
