KNEE ARTHRITIS - Changing the forces through the joint :

osteotomy - external fixation - - Posted by jbmarcus (jbmarcus), 29 January 2003

Hi folks
I saw my OS today. He is a good friend of mine, a tennis buddy, and he knows me well enough to say that I would be totally unhappy with anything but an osteotomy. I trust him, he is a total pro, and he apparently has taught other OS's how to do the procedure. He is doing the procedure where these big ugly pins stick out of the leg(I forgot the name) and he adjusts them by degrees to have more control over the allignment. Can anyone tell me what this called and if they have had this done?

I met someone in rehab who had this procedure done.  Don't know if there is a special name, he just called it an osteotomy with an external fixator (usually this is used for trauma patients).  Try looking up "osteotomy" and external fixator on www.google.com and seeing what you come up with.

Good luck.

Heather
