The patello-femoral joint :
Needing Advice!! - - Posted by SelimsLot (SelimsLot), 5 January 2005
Hi, my name is Selim and I'm 25 years old. When I was 15 I developed a condition called myositis ossificans that left my right leg immobilized for 4 years. When I finally got better I was so excited that I went "all out" and started exercising/playing without the proper rehabilitation I needed. Well, I believe due to muscle imbalances in my right leg (as well as just overall atrophy) I really messed up my knee.
My knee has progressively gotten worse over the last 4 or 5 years. This week has taken a turn for the worse, though, and has caused me to start searching for answers. I experience many of the exact same symptoms that many people on this site have expressed. I can cause my knee to pop like 100 times a day (and often due) either but pulling my knee in or extending it. When I pull it in it seems to pop on the nside and when I extend it (while flexed) it crunches and pops. It's been doing this for years but just gets worse. About a year ago I started making it pop by crossing my right leg and pushign down on the knee. When I squat down all the way and stand it crunches a ton.
It's so bad now that I cannot run or anything. I cannot stand on the bad leg and try to bend it at all. The pain is too bad and my leg gives out.
I'm really distraught because I love sports and exercise. I run on a corporate national track team and I just love to stay in shape...it's something that relieves stress in my life and also keeps my self esteem up.
I have a few questions. First, what do you think is wrong with my knee? Secondly, I have no health insurance so I am wondering what the cost would be for a typical surgery that may help me. Lack of health insurance is the reason I've put this off but I'm so afraid of having to get like a total knee replacement at age 30! How lame would that be?
Please explain to me what is TTT as it seems to be talked about often. My e-mail address is SelimsLot@aol.com
Thanks
Selim
