KNEE ARTHRITIS - Cartilage plug transfer :
OATS experts (cross posted to PF joint section) - - Posted by hmaxwell (Heather M.), 25 January 2005
Hi all. I just wanted to see if people had any suggestions for surgeons who have a lot of experience doing Mosaicplasty/OATS procedures. In particular, I need someone who has experience doing this on patellar lesions.
I'm contactng Dr. Bugbee in San Diego. That would actually be pretty convenient for me, because I have family there and could stay with them. I grew up just north of San Diego--it will be torture for me to go back, because I frankly can't stand So. Cal. anymore, there are too many people now!
Anyway, is there anyone else out there who has a great doctor with experience doing OATS/Mosaicplasty on retropatellar lesions? I'm hoping the doctor will also have experience with scar tissue, as it is the bane of my existence and the reason I now have deep defects in my articular cartilage.
Thanks for any advice or doctors' names. I can travel if necessary, but obviously would prefer to stay as close to home as possible, or stay with relatives. I would have crash pads/places to stay in CA, WA, OR, IN, Central FL, and NY.
Heather
PS I saw Dr. Noyes and he recommended OATS for my lesion. Not sure if ACI/Carticel wouldn't work, but I think he believed it was too big.
