Open VMO advancement and Lateral Release - - Posted by dutchchick3 (dutchchick3), 25 January 2005

I had an open vmo advancement and lateral release a little over a month ago.  I recently started re-hab.  I was supposed to be able to bend it 90 degrees after the first month, however i had quite a bit of swelling and was only up to about 30.  After the first couple days of rehab, we pushed hard and had it to 90....wow did that hurt!  It improved quickly for the first few days, now it's slowed way down and i still have alot of swelling.  The constant pain in my knee had come back, I can still bend it the 90 but thats about it, and it aches all the time.  I do exercises and ice and elevation at least four times a day.  I feel like I'm doing everything I can.  My knee is still just a swollen, and it feels very warm, almost hot to touch.  There is redness at the end of my scar from the open vmo.  I was just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this or if you have any advice.  I have a high pain tolerance and have no problem working hard with re-hab and doing anything I'm told.  So i guess I just don't understand why I feel like it's getting worse, rather than better.  I know it's a slow process, but should it be going this way?  Thanks for any help you can give!!
