Meniscus :

Update to previous post titled "Symptoms...&q - - Posted by Run262 (Run262), 17 January 2005

To all and especially to Heather and AndrewC, I made an appt. with the OS for 2/2/05. Things are not improving and in fact are gradually getting a bit worse I think. I could get in to see him this week but I want to give it two more weeks. In the past when I've gone to see my OS for various running injuries, all but one did get better with time. While I recognize this is not a running injury, I just want to make sure I guess that I'm not wasting his time. So, I told myself that for the next two weeks I will baby my knee, e.g., no running, advil, ice, elevate, light non-impact exercise and see if there are any signs of improvement.

I'll keep you updated if you don't mind. This board is a great resource.

Hey !!

You're a wise person who tries this before seeing the doc. I wish you luck and hope this will help you so you don't need further treatment. A great advice could be making notes what you do, meds, icing, rest a.s.o. to bring to the doc after these 2 weeks. Might help your doc. Just a thought. Have made that myself and that was a big help for my docs.

Hey Nettan,

I notice you list nerve damage as one of your issues below your name. Curious what type of nerve damage, from what procedure and what's the status?

I had saphenous nerve damage from a previous surgery for exertional compartment syndrome in 2002. The OS, whom I'm seeing in two weeks, while releasing my posterior compartments (soleus and gastrocs) nicked/cut my saphenous nerve. A neuroma formed, I had complete numbness from the medial calf down to the ankle, went through all kinds of PT to get the nerve to regenerate and connect, ended up as a last resort before him "going in to see what he can do" with a cortisone shot to the neuroma which helped enough to where I didn't need surgery. Now, I have feeling back almost 90% and am left with an area the size of half dollar that's numb - no big deal. So, I had a positive outcome.

Now, when I read about nerve injuries from an Ortho surgery, I get interested having learned from mine what they are all about - so, I feel for you.

Thanks for the words of advice too.

Pam.
